Lecture tip: Functional coatings based on sol-gel technology
Wolfgang Hering, INNOVENT e. V. - Surface Technology, Jena

Abstract:
Depending on the precursors used, the sol-gel process can be used to apply appropriate functional coatings to a wide variety of materials such as glass, metal, textiles as well as plastics. By coupling with atmospheric pressure or vacuum-based processes, it is also possible to generate functionalities that have not been achieved so far, as well as to further improve the coating adhesion strength and consequently its long-term durability. Due to the diverse possibilities, a wide range of applications can be made accessible, such as for plagiarism protection, for coatings to reduce the tendency to adhesion, or also bactericidal and photocatalytically active coatings.
